Voice Control in Your Smart Home: Alexa, Siri, and Google with Savant

Amazon Alexa Integration with Savant

Alexa is the most mature and widely used voice assistant in the smart home space. Savant's Alexa integration allows you to control virtually any function in your smart home by voice using Echo devices placed throughout the home.

Common Alexa commands in a Savant home:

Savant scenes can be mapped to Alexa routines, so complex multi-device commands execute from a single voice trigger. The integration is reliable, and the Alexa ecosystem's massive skill library adds capabilities far beyond basic device control.

Apple HomeKit and Siri

For households deeply embedded in the Apple ecosystem — iPhones, iPads, Apple TV — HomeKit integration is a compelling option. Savant supports Apple HomeKit, allowing Siri voice control and access through the Apple Home app alongside the Savant app.

HomeKit's security model is exceptionally rigorous, which appeals to clients who prioritize privacy. Apple Home also provides native integration with other HomeKit-certified devices, creating a unified ecosystem experience for Apple-committed households.

Siri control works via any Apple device: "Hey Siri, lock the front door" or "Hey Siri, good morning" can trigger Savant scenes through the HomeKit layer.

Google Assistant Integration

For Google Home users and those in the Google smart home ecosystem, Savant's Google Assistant integration provides comparable voice control capabilities through Google Nest speakers and displays. Google Assistant's natural language processing is excellent, and its integration with Google's other services (calendar, reminders, search) adds unique cross-platform utility.

Which Should You Use?

The good news: you don't have to choose. Many of our Tampa Bay clients use all three simultaneously — Alexa in the main living areas and kitchen, Siri on their personal devices, and Google in specific rooms where they have Google Nest devices. Savant's integrations with all three ecosystems are non-exclusive and can coexist without conflict.

Our recommendation is to choose your primary voice platform based on which ecosystem your household is already most invested in — and then let the others serve as supplementary touchpoints where convenient.

Setting Up Voice Control Right

The quality of voice control in a Savant system depends significantly on how scenes and devices are named during programming. "Turn on the kitchen lights" works reliably. "Activate KIT-01-ZONE-A" does not.
